Marine Environmental Education Program (MEEP)
During my field research in Kimbe Bay, Papua New Guinea, I have collaborated with Mahonia Na Dari on their Marine Environmental Education Program. Since 1997, Mahonia and its researchers have worked with tens of thousands of students and teachers to promote sustainable use of marine resources by local communities. During my field work in 2018 I assisted in the development of educational materials on marine science and climate change used by local school teachers. Additionally, I have led educational snorkeling sessions for local high school girls on the reefs near Mahonia to promote knowledge and understanding of the benefits of coral reef ecosystems, and the threats they face.

Science Club for Girls
During my PhD, I collaborated with Science Club for Girls (SCFG), a 20 week program that provides high school girls from underrepresented communities the opportunity to conduct scientific research. For two years, I mentored the same student, Jameelah Julien, who worked closely with me in the lab every week and was involved in all aspects of research, from experimental design to implementation, to analysis and write-up. Each year, she created a poster and presented results at two local science festivals. More information about this incredible program is available on their website.

Project Biodiversify
I recently developed slides for Project Biodiversify, an online repository of teaching resources that help promote diversity and inclusion in science. The goal of this project is to provide research examples of core biological concepts and at the same time highlight researchers from diverse backgrounds as role models. You can find more information about Project Biodiversify on their website, and you can access my project biodiversify slides here.
